The aim of Prevent is to stop people from becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism. Prevent also extends to supporting the rehabilitation and disengagement of those already involved in terrorism. 

The Prevent duty, which was updated in 2023 requires specified authorities such as education, to help prevent the risk of people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism. It sits alongside long-established safeguarding duties on professionals to protect children and others from a range of other harms, such as substance abuse, involvement in gangs, and physical and sexual exploitation. The duty helps to ensure that people who are susceptible to radicalisation are supported as they would be under safeguarding processes. Across Kernow Learning we take this duty seriously and listen to and take note of any child who we suspect is at risk of radicalisation, regardless of their background. We take steps to help prevent children being exposed to extremist ideas and ensure that children feel safe within our settings to hold open discussions and express tolerance towards all cultures and religions, even when personal views may be different. 

All of our staff ensure they are familiar with current guidance and complete Prevent training at the point of induction and refreshed every two years. 

Prevent risk assessments are in place in each of our settings and we have lockdown policies which are practiced on a regular basis.
