Our Wider Offer

Connecting with our community

Children have made connections with St. Newlyn East's Good Companions group who meet regularly in the village Wesley Hall.

We took five year 4 girls to the group to read them their 'Magic Door Writing Competition' entries. There were 17 entries from across the school.

A special shout out to the oldest member of the group who is 98 years old - she loved the stories.

Inspiring Future Careers

We have a range of speakers come into the school to inspire children about their future careers. We are working with Inspiring the Future - a charity who support schools in giving children aspirational goals for their future careers to invite a range of speakers to come and deliver presentations as part of assemblies and in class.  Here are a few examples of the speakers we have had:

  • Jordan and Katie from SERCO
  • Rob and Chelsea from Royal Navy
  • Will Keating - Cornish Singer and Songwriter
  • PC Andy Filkins
  • Malcolm Bell - Chief Exec of Visit Cornwall
  • Robert Wiltshire - Digital Software Cornwall Lead

SNEET are proud of their role and purpose in school and the community. Through our connections with the STEM co-ordinator for the Southwest – Janine Bisson - we have been able to undertake planting, litter pick, and lead our polytunnel project. The children, through these mini-projects, all see the significance of their role, Sophie who leads the group said, “There probably isn’t any other planet that we will be able to go to in our lifetimes and so we need to save the one we’ve got.”
